If you’re feeling like your skincare needs a little revamp or refresh, allow me to point you in the right direction. I have never taken my skincare routine that seriously, just give me a face wash that won’t make me break out. I finally told myself “Hillary, you’re 28 years old, lets start taking care of that SKIN.” I have heard a ton of bloggers talk about Tula for forever (I KNOW you’ve heard about it too), so I decided I was going to try it out for myself. I wanted to see what the hype was all about, if there was any hype at all. This is not sponsored in any way either!
Side note, even if it was, I want you to know that I will always share my honest opinion, sponsored or not. I will never ever share products or clothing that I don’t believe in or align with who I am 🙂
Ok, moving on!
I asked for their starter kit for Christmas, just to get my feet wet. It is pricier than your average Target purchases, so I wanted to experiment before taking the plunge! The starter kit comes with the cleanser, the resurfacing gel, the illuminating face serum, and the day and night moisturizing cream. I have been using it for about 4 weeks now, and I love it. It is so refreshing and my skin feels hydrated. It’s also quick and easy to use!
I use the products in this order:
- I use the purifying cleanser to get rid of my makeup and clean my face!
- Then I use the resurfacing gel to get rid of the left over makeup and dirt. It acts as a toner if you will. I simply put 1-2 pumps on a cotton pad and glide over my face.
- Then I use about 1-2 pumps of the illuminating serum.
- Lastly I end with a thin layer of the day and night cream. You really don’t use a lot of this product! It’s so hydrating. A little bit goes a long way!
I would recommend starting with the starter kit. So that way you can get a feel for the products you really really love! And it’s a great price for the value. The starter kit costs $52 valuing at $86!
Another skincare product I have been using and loving is Beauty Counter’s Overnight resurfacing peel. My friend Katie reached out to me and gifted this product to me, she told me I needed to give it a try! When I was pregnant, I got really bad Melasma on my face, so my complexion was really uneven and splotchy. Thank you, Bentley. 😉 She told me this resurfacing peel would help clear it up! Obviously after I gave birth it started clearing up on it’s own, but this has helped speed up the process.
When I heard the word “peel” I was like oh absolutely not. I don’t want my skin peeling off. Ha! But it’s not like that at all. I am going to copy and paste the description from the Beauty Counter website, because they say it best!
“Goodnight, dullness. Good morning, glow. Formulated with 15 botanically-derived acids, this leave-on AHA/BHA peel improves skin texture and minimizes the appearance of pores, fine lines, and dark spots without irritation or over-drying. Glycolic, lactic, and malic acids clear away dull surface skin cells, while hyaluronic acid and essential fatty acids soothe and nourish to reveal a brighter, more youthful-looking complexion.”
It definitely leaves my face feeling “young” in the morning, a lot tighter, if that makes sense. Yes please. You can use it 3-4 times a week!
I will say, I chose not to use this during my pregnancy, even though I have been told it is safe during pregnancy. Just a personal choice! Everyone is different 🙂
Also, if you are super sensitive about smells, and smells are a big deal to you, this might not be for you. I don’t loveeee the smell, but it’s not terrible. I love what it does to my skin, so I’m willing to overlook it 🙂 You finish with a moisturizer too, so that helps!
You can contact Katie if you’re interested in learning more about this product, or any other Beauty Counter products! Her email is firstname.lastname@example.org and her Instagram is @katies_beautycounter.
Ok if you’re looking for a cheaper moisturizer (cheaper than the Tula one), try this one! It is called “Drink of H20 Hydrating Boost” and that is exactly what it does. It literally feels like your face drank a glass of water. Is that weird?? So refreshing! It also feels cool when you put it on your face, which who doesn’t love that. It has 5 star reviews from 1,400 people! It has more of a “gel” type texture, and glides on so smoothly. It leaves your face feeling refreshed and not greasy. I’ve been enjoying this one as well. I tend to use this one in the morning!
Isle of Paradise Tanning Drops
THESE ARE GREAT! Seriously. I am all about a good self tanner, and these are good. Let me tell you why. It isn’t a spray or a lotion, they are drops that you mix in with your moisturizer! Which I think makes them great. I haven’t had an streaks with them. That being said, you still need to be careful.
I usually use about 2-4 drops for my face, and 2-4 drops for my body. It all depends on how intense you want the color! That’s the beauty of it, you control it. You just put a little moisturizer in your hands, add however many drops you want, rub your hands together, and then apply! You also need to wash your hands immediately afterwards.
I mainly use mine on my face right now, since #winter and #pale. I’m not wearing clothes that show my pale arms and legs, so we’re good. They will stay hidden right now. I have used them on my arms and legs though!
I got the color dark because I had seen a few other bloggers use that color and I like the color. You can get light or medium as well! Which ever works for you and your skin tone.
These drops are selling like HOT CAKES. So more than likely, they are sold out right now. I would advise you to sign up for their email notifications, so that when they restock you will be notified and you can hurry and purchase some! They literally sell out in a day or two. They’re good.
They also have a tanning water, that I haven’t tried, but have heard great things about as well. Mainly used on your body! I will link those also.
Dose of Dew
This is just something small I picked up a few months ago randomly, and fell in love. I am not a highlighting queen, but I do love a good highlight. Who doesn’t!? I had a few that I liked, but nothing gave me the glow I was hoping for. UNTIL THIS BAD BOY. It’s a creamy stick that you glide on, and then blend in with my finger. I found that a beauty blender absorbed the product instead of blended it. So finger works best! It has just the right amount of sheen and glow, and really works. I gave it to my mom for Christmas, and she loves it too!
It’s currently on sale right now for $4.50?! Normally $9. So it’s super affordable. Go get this “Dose of Dew” now. Thank me later. 😉
Kristen Ess Straightener (under $100!)
I got the Kristen Ess Straightener for Christmas and I’ve been loving it! I scored with the Christmas presents incase you can’t tell. The straightener I had been using previously was from like 2010. So old and I couldn’t use it to curl my hair, but you know, it got the job done. I figured it was time to upgrade, and I love Kristen Ess products! I love it! You can use it to straighten your hair, curl your hair, and wave your hair. I love that waves are coming back in. I remember religiously crimping my hair back in the middle school days. It took FOREVER but I was dedicated. Did you ever do that?! Obviously tiny crimping isn’t back in, but bigger waves are!
I love that this straightener can do all three, and that it’s super affordable. I know everyone raves about the T3 Micro products, and maybe they’re amazing (I haven’t tried), but this gets the job done and done beautifully!
Kristen Ess Loose Styling Powder
So I randomly decided to try this. I wasn’t 100% what it was supposed to do or be used for, but hey I was down to try it. I love all of Kristen’s products. You can find them at Target, so while you’re busy tossing all those other random items in your cart (that weren’t on your list), try this. 😉
I am so glad I tried it. It’s a little hard to explain this product, but I will try. The product is actual loose powder, and resembles a baby powder bottle. You use it the same way, by shaking out powder through tiny holes. But when you touch the powder, rub it in, or tap, it instantly becomes gritty. Gritty in a good way, I promise.
Kristen said she uses this on all her braids. She said it’s perfect for when you are doing a braid or an updo and you’re nervous about it falling out or apart. She recommends sprinkling on your braid before you pull out a few pieces and make it messy. It will hold it in place and give it some texture!
I have personally used it at my roots to give some volume, and vavavooooom does it ever! You literally only need a TINY amount of product for big results. It will last you forever. You won’t use this product everyday! Just for special occasions, when you need a little lift, or when you’re doing updos or braids.
You have to be careful with it though! It could end up making your hair greasy or too gritty if you go over board.
Ok that was a lot. But hopefully helpful!!
Have you tried any of these products?! Have you been wanting to try any of these?! Let me know below!
