Best of Basics: Tops Edition
I feel like I should’ve done this post awhile ago…I am a huge fan of basic tops. But then again, who isn’t!? If you don’t already have a few basic go to tops, then allow me to help you! Even if you do, allow me to tempt you 😉 Just kidding, don’t go over budget y’all!! My husband would be so proud to read those words (Tate are you reading??). Ok just incase I need to explain why basic tops are super important to have, let me fill ya in! They are great to wear alone, great to layer over, they will go with almost all of your bottoms, they’re very versatile, and they should be super comfy and enjoyable to wear. Definitely a requirement for my basic tops!
I am going to walk you through some of my favorite short sleeve tees, as well as long sleeved! I own almost all of these, and if I don’t own them, I have tried them on and wished I would’ve bought them. If you have any questions at all, shoot me a DM on instagram or email me, and I will get back to you ASAP! My email is email@example.com. I seriously love styling/fashion/all questions!
Short Sleeve Tops
American Eagle Soft n Sexy Tee
This one is seriously so soft. I am not sure about the sexy part?? But hey I will take it! These t-shirts aren’t stiff and they don’t have structure (which I always prefer). They drape super nicely, easy to knot, or front tuck, or whatever else you want to do with them. They are a great basic tee to have! I got a size large in these t-shirts. They aren’t overly big, and since I like my things a little looser, larges work for me. Mediums would 100% work as well, all about preference! And they are on sale right now, yaaassss.
*These don’t work for pregnancy
BP Raw Edge V Neck Tee
These are trusty little guys! I have three colors, and all of them have been worn way too many times to count. I have a black, purple grey color, and black and white stripe. I have two larges and one medium. They both work! The larges do tend to dip a little in the v neck region, so be mindful of that if you get a large. I always wear bralettes so it’s never a huge issue for me. I got a medium in the black and white stripes and I love it! The black and white stripes is a staple in my opinion, that is, if you’re a stripe addict like me. 😉 These are GREAT tees.
*These worked for the first few months of pregnancy (for me)
Z Supply Tee
Another great option. Their pocket tees are my jam. I have a camo one, as well as navy and dusty pink. They are just a great basic. Scoop hem, longer hemline which is great, and the pocket isn’t super awkward even though it is large. Love layering with these! I have larges, once again I prefer them longer to wear with leggings. To each his own! I could easily wear a medium too. Check out the colors too, they have a billion. Seriously!
*These work for my pregnant self even right now at 32 weeks (in large)
H&M Mock Pocket Tee
So these are my “cheapy” tees. They are super inexpensive and their quality is just alright. But I have worn both my white one and my black one countless times and they’re still going strong! They have a “mock pocket” which I don’t love, because it always gets a little lumpy after washing it, but whatever. It’s so cheap I overlook the lumpy. These also come in a bunch of colors! I recommend neutrals, like grey, black or white. The white is slightly see through but not terrible. Once again, I have larges!
*These worked for the beginning and middle stages of pregnancy for me
V-Neck Tee for Pregnant Mommas
Alright my pregnant mamas! You might laugh at this. Over here in Belgium, everything is in Dutch. So when I was in H&M shopping for some basic tees to fit my preggo tummy, I wandered into the plus size section without realizing it. Hello dutch words I don’t understand. I saw these vnecks and I thought “YES! These look long enough!!”. Sure enough, tried them on and loved them. I grabbed a white one in a large and a striped one (don’t believe it’s on US site yet) in an XL so I could grow into it. The large fits my tummy fine and I’m 32 weeks! It is getting a little short, but still works. The XL is a little big in the arm/sleeve section, but it’s freezing and I’m layering over it so I don’t care. The XL is definitely long enough! I literally wear these shirts every other day. Highly recommend!
Long Sleeved Tops
American Eagle Waffle Tee
I don’t personally have one of these, but I have heard amazing things about them! They don’t look long enough for leggings (in my opinion), even though it says they are made for leggings, but they would be cute with jeans or joggers! They have it in a few colors too!
BP Long Sleeved Tee
These are great! I have tried them on, but didn’t purchase. They would be great for layering. It does run oversized, so I would size down. Read the reviews! They are always really helpful. They also come in a ton of colors and prints.
BP Side Slit Tee
I just got this in the mail and I love it! It’s what I am wearing in the picture above. I will be wearing all the time this fall and winter. Either under jackets, leather jackets, or under sweaters as a cute layering option. They would also be cute layered under chambray tops with scarves. Options are indeed endless. This comes in black and white stripes, cream and black stripes, white, and black. I got the cream and white stripes! It does run big, so I ordered a medium and I love the fit. For both pregnancy and non pregnancy! It covers my bump and all the women “areas”. So therefore it will cover everything after baby too. LOVE THIS TOP! And it’s such a great price. Might get another 😉
Free People January Tee
Kicking myself for not buying this this summer when it was on crazy sale. I would still buy it not on sale, and I still might. It is such a flattering shirt!! Especially for a pregnant tummy! But even if you aren’t pregnant, it’s gorgeous on. It’s this buttery soft material and drapes so nicely. Tight on the arms and flowy everywhere else, without making you look like a ten. No one wants the tent look. Highly highly recommend this top! I know it’s pricey, but I bet you wear it for years and years. Lots of colors too! I believe I tried on a medium and loved the fit.
As always, hope this was helpful!
