Why does it have to be such a dreaded topic?! I mean I get it. No one wants to spend money on clothes they can’t wear for super long, and let’s just say it, most maternity clothes just aren’t that cute. And WHY THE HECK NOT?! I mean just because we get this big ole tummy doesn’t mean we don’t want to look cute and trendy too!
I have heard so many people say “I didn’t buy anything during my first pregnancy” and “oh don’t buy a lot, you can wear a lot of non maternity pieces” And maybe I am the only crazy person….but I am buying a couple maternity pieces. Like what are you supposed to wear for pants if you don’t? Your normal jeans, busting out, held together by a rubber band? I’ve definitely been doing that lately, but I can’t imagine doing that in a month. Your girl is already uncomfortable, I don’t want to add any more discomfort to my tummy!
So I am buying maternity clothes. Yes. I am, and I am so glad I am! Obviously I am not going to drop a ton of money on maternity clothes, because who wants to do that, but I am finding really good pieces for great prices! I am 100% embracing this beautiful stage of life I am in, and I am embracing it with comfort.
The Drabby Problem
Now let me just vent for a minute about maternity clothes and the vibe they’re giving off. I have been searching for two pairs of jeans to wear this fall and winter. Normally I am a “distressed jean person”, I always have some sort of distressing on my jeans, it’s just how I roll.
I don’t know what maternity designers think about pregnant women, but people like me don’t just become a boring jean wearer. Like does having a belly mean you can’t wear cool trendy jeans?! All the ones I am seeing are super boring and hole-less (as I am typing this I am laughing out loud- like THESE are my problems HA!) And to be honest, most of the maternity items I’m seeing in general, are prettyyy darn drabby. Why do pregnant women have drabby options! Not ok, we want to look pretty too. 😉
Does anyone else feel me?? If so, I got you girls. I have found two websites that I love for maternity pieces. They are NORMAL CUTE CLOTHES for pregnant mommas!
Where I’m Shopping
The first website is ASOS. Have you heard of it? They have a whole section of their website dedicated to maternity clothes! Yes please. And they are super cute. They have a ton of basic staples, as well as trendy pieces. ASOS also has an amazing maternity dress selection if you are needing a dress!
The next website is Pink Blush Maternity. I have no idea how I found them, but I am so glad I did. They have CUTE jeans! I just ordered a pair from them, and I love them. Wearing them in my latest post and up above! They look like your everyday trendy jeans, except sorry ladies, just for the big tummies 😉 You can usually get them on sale too, they always run new sales.
So if you haven’t checked out either of those places, you should! I am about to show you some of my favorite pieces from both, so keep scrolling.
Pieces to Invest In
Ok so if you’re wanting to purchase a few staple pieces, let me help you. These are the items I have either purchased or am purchasing soon! I am a planner, so I really planned out what I thought would be WORTH buying. I will wear these pieces every day, they will pair well with non maternity items I already have/will have, and these pieces are staples. So let’s get going.
Tank tops & T-shirts
I mean, need I say more? My fall and winter uniform will consist of big chunky sweaters, maternity tanks, jeans, and boots. Substituting jeans with leggings, duh. Maybe you already have some tanks, but let me ask you, are they long enough?? Most non maternity pieces aren’t long enough to cover the bump appropriately! You can’t can’t can’t go wrong with a black or white maternity tank top or t-shirt. You just can’t. I also bought a peplum top in cream and olive green and I am obsessed! Can be worn alone or under jackets and sweaters. They can also fit any size bump, which I love! I am wearing the cream top in the pictures above.
Jeans & Leggings
Ya’ll I really can’t imagine what you would do about the jean situation if you don’t buy maternity jeans. I slipped on my first pair the other day (I don’t even have a huge tummy yet) and I literally jumped up and down saying WHY HAVE I NOT WORN THESE SOONER! I can breathe! I feel comfortable! What more could you want right now?! 😉 I have found a few pairs that I think are super cute. I ordered one blue pair and one black pair!
So some people have said that they buy a pair of non maternity leggings, just in a bigger size, to last them through their pregnancy. Which sounds about right, but then I think about it. If I am going to buy another pair of leggings, why don’t I just buy a pair of maternity leggings that I know will fit comfortably over my bump? And I am talking a cheap but quality pair of leggings. So next up on my list is maternity leggings! I can’t decide between Target and ASOS. Both seem fine, how can you really go wrong with black leggings?
Trendy Pieces you don’t NEED but are DARN CUTE
Ya ya ya. These aren’t needed but I am a sucker for cute tops and fun jeans! I am honestly having a lot of fun finding cute maternity pieces…someone stop me.
Ok I hope this has helped some of you looking for key pieces! And also- CONGRATS on your pregnancy! It’s such an exciting, crazy, sweet, emotional time in your life. Embrace every moment.
