Splurge vs Save
I am definitely not a make up guru. I don’t spend hours on my make up, nor do I spend a ton of money on make up. Clothes are more my thing! But I do want to look good and feel pretty! I wish I could be one of those girls that goes make up free out in public, but I just can’t bring myself to do it. Just being honest. I can’t do it! I need a little something something on my face or a little something something on my eyes. 😉 Anyways, I shop for my make up at both Target and Sephora. All about the balance of saving and splurging. I have been using the same products pretty consistently now, and have found products that really work for me! I thought I would share them with you, just incase you’re on the hunt for a new bronzer or blush. Or maybe you just want to switch up your make up products and you’re down to try new things!
Welcome to my “Splurge vs Save: Make Up Edition”
What I Save On
Ok I love this stuff. I recently had to switch up my tinted moisturizer due to pregnancy. I couldn’t use the one I have been using for YEARS (Neutrogena Tinted Moisturizer) due to the salicylic acid. I will link below in a second, just incase you aren’t pregnant and want to try it. It’s good!
Back to the one I’m currently using. So I really don’t like foundation at all. I don’t like covering my entire face in foundation, I feel like it looks cakey and I’m nervous it will make me break out. So I am a huge advocate of tinted moisturizer! I randomly picked up this one and I actually love it. It is super lightweight, doesn’t feel greasy, and has light coverage. I have dark spots right now on my face (pregnancy mask), so I definitely want coverage!
This is the concealer I have used for a long time as well. I mainly use it underneath my eyes and to cover up my pimples or dark spots! This stuff is great. I apply it with my beauty blender. Love the coverage and the lightweight feel.
I honestly am not passionate about a certain mascara. Maybe I haven’t tried the right one, but they all seem super similar to me. As long as it gets the job done, I like you. I have used this one for a long time and I like it! It doesn’t clump, it layers well, and the wand isn’t massive or overly thick (which I like).
Side note: I do want to splurge on the Nars Climax Mascara. I have heard so many people talk about it and I want to try it! It’s $24, which is obviously pricier than drug store options, but it’s not terrible! Have you tried it?! Do you use it? Is it worth the hype? Let a girl know! I’ve linked it below in the Splurge section.
Eyeliner is eyeliner to me. Like mascara, I’m not picky about eyeliner. Obviously I don’t want a terrible eyeliner, that comes off after two hours, but I am great with drug store brands. This has been the one I continually grab at Target! I love it.
Ok this is my secret weapon. You miiiight die at the brand, ha! But I freaking love this stuff!!! My mom uses the Nars Liquid Blush and I was really wanting it for myself, but couldn’t bring myself to spend $30 on blush. I had used the ELF bronzer/blush duo before, and liked it enough, so when I saw this new version I knew I had to try it before splurging on NARS. Needless to say, I didn’t splurge on the NARS because I am addicted to this ELF bronzer/blush duo. It’s not powder, but not it’s necessarily a cream either. It’s a mix! It brushes on so nicely and blends so well. It’s pigmented without being too much or not enough. I love it. It’s $6, which I can get behind.
Try this stuff!! Let me know what you think!
My favorite nude everyday lipstick of all. I can’t tell you how many tubes I have gone through. I know lipstick shades differ on everyone, but if you’re down to try a new lippie, try this. It’s good. Real good.
What I Splurge On
I have used Bare Minerals since high school. I love their powder foundation! I love it because, once again, it doesn’t feel like foundation to me. I find that I use this mainly to even out my skin tone. I use the Neutrogena tinted moisturizer, and then I apply this! I love that this also lasts me quite awhile. They have shades for dayssss, but I tend to always use medium tan.
When I DO wear foundation (my wedding day and events when I want a little more) I wear this one. For my wedding day I decided to go find my own foundation, because I wasn’t loving the ones tried during my make up trial. I’m telling you, I’m picky. This is the one I went with! It definitely has coverage, but it’s not thick and it doesn’t dive deep into all my fine lines and pores (the worst). If you’re picky about foundation or weird about foundation, but you want to use foundation, try this!
The only eyeshadow I use! I love this palette because it’s all neutral colors and I use it for both everyday eyes and “fancy eyes”. I got the smaller version because, well, I wanted to splurge but not that much 😉 hahah. I am happy with this size though!
My favorite favorite favorite bronzer of all time. I only use this one! I love it so much. It’s called Chocolate Solei, and people swear it smells like Chocolate. I guess it does?? I can’t tell, but it does smell good. Highly recommend this bronzer! I don’t have to purchase this too often, as it lasts awhile.
Ok I know I joked about contouring, but I did get this little cutie as a stocking stuffer last Christmas and I love it! I don’t necessarily “contour” with it, but I use the bronzer and highlighter. I love this little kit because it also comes with instructions on different ways to “contour”. The highlighter is amazing, and it includes my favorite bronzer I mentioned above. This is a great stocking stuffer idea!
I’m not a highlighter freak, and I am sure there are better ones out there, but I like this liquid highlighter. It’s subtle but enough. Lightweight and easy to use! It also lasts for forever, unless of course you are highlighting your entire face. 😉
So this was definitely a splurge for me, considering what the product is. But I am a lipstick lover and I was really looking for a way to make my lipstick last longer and apply smoother. This stuff is great! I bought it over a year ago, and I am still going strong with it, and I have plenty left. I apply this right before my lipstick, as a primer. It really preps my lips for lipstick!
This thing. A hero, isn’t it?? I use this everyday to apply my makeup. You just get it wet and dab away!! Dab dab dab dab dab. If you haven’t used one before, try it. It applies your makeup so much better than your finger. I don’t use it for everything though! I actually apply my tinted moisturizer with my fingers, but I use the beauty blender for my concealer and it’s a game changer.
Ok that’s it folks. Easy peasy. Do you use any of these?? Let me know!!
